“Priest Adam Stankevich
Presentation of the book by Vladzimir Conan Priest Adam Stankevich and Catholic Renaissance in Belarus took place in Minsk Center of Francis Skaryna on January 29, 2004. Organizers of the presentation are National Scientific Educational Center of Francis Skaryna, publishing house Pro Christo and that of the magazine Our Faith.
Priest Adam Stankevich and Catholic Renaissance in Belarus is the next edition of the series of the books “Library of the Magazine Our Faith” of the publishing house Pro Christo.
The presentation began with the report of the author who acquainted the presents with the main periods of Adam Stankevich’s life and activity, pointing out his significance for the whole Belarusian people and renaissance of his spiritual culture. Vladzimir Conan also answered the questions of the partakers of the presentation.
Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus Archbishop Ivan Jurkovich gave a brief speech on behalf of the Catholic Church. He especially underlined the significance of sufferings accepted for neighbours in Christ’s name. Some representatives of the clergy also had a word. Among them there were priest Uladzislau Zavalniuk, dean of the parish of St. Simon and Elena, and priest Alaksandr Tarasevich, dean in Radashkovichi, as well as deacon Jury Zaloska, representative of the Orthodox Church. Belarusian poet Nil Gilevich drew everybody’s attention to such representatives of the clergy as priest Adam Stankevich in different times and countries and their great contribution to spiritual, cultural and social development.
Afterwards there took place unofficial coffee party in comfortable and friendly atmosphere.
It should be mentioned that it is on the eve of his 70th anniversary that Vladzimir Conan presented his work, dedicated to Adam Stankrvich’s life and activity investigation. Vladzimir Conan is Professor of Philosophy, author of the numerous monographs and scientific articles.
